BACKGROUND
In early 2006, Conor Mcloughlin and Elliot Careswell, two childhood mates were both pursuing their music careers at Leederville Central TAFE in Perth, Australia. They were given an assignment to write a few songs and perform them in front of the whole music department. This was the birthday of The Milkmen. Since then they have been writing music and started working towards getting a band together.
The Milkmen have been playing gigs around Fremantle and Northbridge but have also made it out to Margaret River Settlers Tavern, Gnowanagerup Hotel and Moora. The band supported fellow Perth band End of Fashion as part of the Australia Day Celebration at Langley Park Foreshore in early 2008. In late 2008 Elliot found their new drummer Jonathan “Jono” Riviere. He was playing a small gig at a Perth University in his mates’ reggae band. Jonathan cleaned up a lot of the rhythm section and brought the feel that The Milkmen were looking for.
The Milkmen played at The 2007 Royal Show Coca Cola “Be the Band” Competition and it was a great way to make a name for themselves. They pushed to get in some more band competitions. With their new drummer, The Milkmen were ready to step up. In April 2009 ‘The Milkmen’ walked away with $15,000 in cash and prizes after winning the Rockingham Hotel Battle Of The Bands, garnering significant media exposure and considered it to be a great success.
The band recorded their EP Always Deliver at Satellite Studios Burswood July 2009. Their song Who We Are from the EP was also featured on a compilation CD – Acoustika Vol 19 (272 Records, Hollywood, USA) was released November 30th 2009.
Always Deliver is now available for preview on MySpace and is also available for download from their official website for free at www.themilkmen.comyr.com
CAREER
Early August 2010 The Milkmen recorded their brand new album The Man with the Plan at Poonshead Studios in East Fremantle with Rob Grant. This album was released October 15th, 2010. The Man with the Plan has now been generating quite a bit of interest. Following the release the album was sent to Radio Fremantle on which they played a track that night and got The Milkmen in for and interview a couple of days later. Five tracks off the new album were played on air that night and the band performed two tracks live on the air. The title track The Man with the Plan has already been featured on their second compilation CD titled Rocky Blues Volume 4 distributed by Bluetongue Records (Kwinana, Western Australia).
The band’s most recent achievement came late November 2011 when The Milkmen walked away with first prize after winning the Avon Rock 2010 band competition in Northam. Their prize included 8 hours recording at Satellite Studios with Darren Halifax and $1,000 music voucher for Music Park.
The Milkmen have written all together more than 70 original songs. Earlier this year, The Milkmen went back into the studio and recorded two brand new tracks A Better Life for us to Live and A Picture of You, so expect a new single out soon.
